Antidandruff property of <i>Psidium guajava</i> leaf extracts

<i>Psidium guajava</i> leaf paste and decoction have long been used in Mauritius for their efficacy dandruff management. The study aimed to test <i>P. extracts against fungi collected from patients' scalps, as previous research has shown a strong link between dermatophytes. Fungi were isolated cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar (SDA), which contained 2% olive oil, 1% Tween 80, chloramphenicol. isolates identified using physiological, macroscopic, microscopic, biochemical, molecular techniques. Hydrodistillation Soxhlet extraction of Mauritian leaves obtain essential oil different solvent fractions, then screened the presence phytochemicals. microdilution assay was antifungal activity harvested isolates. <i>Neurospora intermedia</i>, <i>Trichoderma atroviride</i>, <i>Trichosporon asahii</i> fungi. solvents chloroform, methanol, hexane produced higher extract yields (16.2%, 15.2% 14.7%). phytochemicals most abundant chloroform-methanol (4:1 v/v) fraction. methanol fraction had highest total phenolic content (TPC), flavonoid (TFC), tannin (TTC), with concentrations 298.27 19.66 g GAE/g, 132.1 6.15 QUE/g, 118.53 1.60 respectively. Isolates sensitive MIC 1.56 mg/mL. From study, it can be deduced that are effective agents potential ingredients natural antidandruff hair products, high demand cosmetic industry.
